Don’t Abandon Your Lighthouse

Recently, I went on a cruise to the Bahamas. One morning I went outside on the balcony to catch a glimpse of the sunrise. As I opened the sliding door we were passing by a lighthouse.  It appeared to be abandoned and at that moment I felt the Lord say “Don’t abandon your lighthouse”.

A lighthouse is a tower whose purpose is to shine light as guidance to ships at sea. As believers we are lighthouses which we have a light within us; A light that the Lord has put in us. Right now the world is full of darkness, hate, conflict, confusion, and sadness. Therefore, we need to shine our light on the darkness of others and fill their lives with joy, love, hope, and happiness. I love how the message version of Matthew 5:14-16 says it:

“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 MSG

You never know who surrounds us that may need the light that we hold within us, that can spark in their darkness and can lead them to God. There are certain areas in our lives God is telling us to shine. Where does God want you to shine? The places where God wants us to shine can be a little daunting, well don’t let fear act as shade to your light. Trust in God and shine where God has planted you to guide His people from darkness into the goodness of the Lord. Ignite your light and God will do the rest.

“I am God. I have called you to live right and well. I have taken responsibility for you, kept you safe. I have set you among my people to bind them to me, and provided you as a lighthouse to the nations, To make a start at bringing people into the open, into light: opening blind eyes, releasing prisoners from dungeons, emptying the dark prisons.
Isaiah 42:6-7 MSG

So spark that light in your Lighthouse and start Shining! The world needs your Light!!
